Here’s another reason (as if I needed one) for us folks over 50 to have a great sex life:

Regular sex makes your brain work better.

That’s not a joke. Science is now finding that one of the things you can do to prevent symptoms of brain aging is to have regular sex.

Before I go on to talk about this study, I want to address the elephant in the room.

Lots of guys think that if their penis doesn’t work they can’t have sex.

It’s 100% normal to think that. But thankfully it isn’t true at all.

All men can have great sex lives no matter what their penis is doing at the moment.

I know that for lots of guys this sounds rather strange. But it really is true.

You can have sex with or without a hard-on.  

Not only that, but lots of guys who really struggle with getting an erection and/or staying hard can safely get their erections back without using Big Pharma chemicals.

A number of studies show that sex is beneficial to health.

But this study is particularly interesting because it shows that sex can keep our brains sharp as we age.

And I don’t know about you, but maintaining my cognitive function is super-important to me.

If you want to beat Alzheimer’s and dementia, try having sex at least once a week.

Once a week isn’t nearly enough though, in my opinion.

Jodi and I usually have sex three or four times a week for long periods of time and it’s great – really, really great – especially since I used to have erection problems quite a lot.

But even if you don’t have quite as much sex as we do, that’s okay.

Having sex once a week seems to have really good health benefits – and it’s fun too.

“Researchers found that people who engaged in more regular sexual activity (at least weekly) scored higher on tests that measured their verbal fluency and their ability to visually perceive objects and the spaces between them.”

Scientists aren’t quite sure why regular sex leads to better cognitive function, just that it does.

But I bet as they do more research they’ll find that the connection people make during sex creates a positive brain cascade that improves function.

“We can only speculate whether this is driven by social or physical elements – but an area we would like to research further is the biological mechanisms that may influence this.”

What’s really interesting is that, despite all commercials on TV and in our email for Viagara and the like…

We still often EXPECT to lose sexual as we age. But that’s a mistake.

We should be expecting great sex well into our older years.

“People don’t like to think that older people have sex – but we need to challenge this conception at a societal level and look at what impact sexual activity can have on those aged 50 and over, beyond the known effects on sexual health and general wellbeing.”

There’s absolutely no reason we can’t have amazing sex lives well into our 90s and beyond.

After all, great sex is one of the greatest joys in life… AND it has major health benefits.

I’d probably be having sex regularly even if I knew it would shorten my lifespan.

That the data that says sex will make my life longer and healthier is a wonderful bonus.
