This is why DHT keeps getting a bad rap

Matt Cook here, and DHT is one of the most important male hormones…

But dodgy science has fingered this beneficial hormone as the cause of balding and prostate problems.

DHT is not responsible for these issues – but there are now a large number of men taking treatments and supplements to lower DHT.

These treatments include finasteride, (aka Propecia), dutasteride and others.

They are used to prevent and reverse balding, and also mask symptoms of prostate problems.

Their effectiveness in fighting baldness is unproven.

These treatments can get rid of some of the symptoms of a swollen prostate for a while…

…but they actually make prostate health worse in the long term.

DHT, the hormone they reduce, is now proven to be essential for prostate health.

Some guys don’t like to take Rx treatments, or they can’t get an Rx…

…and so they are tempted to use herbs like saw palmetto which have the same effect.

But all of these DHT-lowering substances cause nasty side effects.

And in some cases, it seems that they actually lower testosterone too.

This case report was written up by doctors at the Hirosaki University Graduate School in Japan. It was published in the International Journal of Family and Community Medicine.

Hypogonadism is low testosterone caused by inadequate production of the hormone in the testicles (gonads).

“Hypogonadism causes loss of libido, loss of body hair, depression, loss of muscle and hot flashes.”

5-alpha-reductase inhibitors like finasteride, Propecia, and saw palmetto are used to lower the production of another primary male hormone – DHT.

In theory, they shouldn’t cause hypogonadism/low testosterone.

“5-alpha-reductase inhibitors often contained in anti-balding products are known not to cause low testosterone because they reduce DHT and not total testosterone.”

These treatments cause major psychological and mood problems – because DHT is an essential hormone for men.

There are some indications that five alpha reductase inhibitors may also cause low testosterone.

They certainly caused symptoms identical to hypogonadism.

“This report is on a patient with strong cold sensations of lower extremities and hypogonadism caused by five alpha reductase inhibitors.”

Paresthesia is an abnormal cold, burning, or prickly sensation in the skin.

It is sometimes reported in men with low testosterone, but it can have many different causes.

“The patient was taking two types of five alpha reductase inhibitors. He was taking finasteride [Propecia] and saw palmetto fruit extract.”

After interviewing the man about his treatment and supplement use…

…the researchers carried out blood tests to see exactly what was going on.

They found out that the man had very low levels of testosterone and luteinizing hormone.

Luteinizing hormone is produced in the pituitary gland.

It travels to the testicles where it should trigger increased output of testosterone.

So when a man has low testosterone and low luteinizing hormone, luteinizing hormone is quite likely the culprit.

“We diagnosed hypogonadism due to a lack of testosterone secretion.”

The doctors were suspicious that the five alpha reductase inhibitors might be playing into the patient’s symptoms.

So they asked him to stop taking these substances.

A week later, the researchers ran the labs again.

They were a little surprised to see a complete rebound in the previously mentioned hormones.

“Eight days after discontinuing the ‘treatments,’ testosterone and luteinizing hormone levels improved significantly.”

It seems that 1 or both of these substances were suppressing the man’s luteinizing hormone…

…leading to low testosterone and hypogonadism symptoms.

This shouldn’t happen according to the standard understanding of these treatments.

Many doctors believe that five alpha reductase inhibitors will only affect DHT.

But substances rarely only affect 1 enzyme and only 1 hormone.

A month after stopping use of five alpha reductase inhibitors, the man’s symptoms of low testosterone were completely abolished.

“After discontinuing both treatments, his symptoms improved completely within a month.”

The findings of this investigation led the researchers to warn about potential effects of five alpha reductase inhibitors on testosterone production.

“Physicians should consider five alpha reductase inhibitors as a cause of cold sensation and hypogonadism and carefully check every ingested ‘treatment’ including imported over-the-counter herbs.”

As if DHT-lowering effects of five alpha reductase inhibitors weren’t bad enough…

…some of these substances may also cause low testosterone.

THIS is what’s giving men a swollen prostate — not DHT

Even though some scientists and doctors are trying to convince men that DHT is a problem for the prostate…

The actual scientific research keeps showing the opposite…

That DHT is actually GOOD for the prostate, and can help prevent prostate problems.

See, the true culprit behind prostate problems and prostate inflammation is something else…

A sister-chemical to estrogen that is very bad for men when it gets too high…

Here’s the bad chemical causing prostate problems — and I’ll show you how to lower it very easily in just a few days
