Here’s what’s really causing your neck and back pain

I’m super excited today because I have a VERY easy health fix for you that can make a huge and instant difference in getting rid of neck pain, back pain, and headaches…

…especially if you work at a computer all day.

You see, computers can cause TERRIBLE posture that looks like this:

Flattering huh?

Now… This is an exaggerated version of the way that MOST people sit at a computer, but it’s a pretty good representation.

If you sit like this (or even close to this) you are likely heading for some pretty not-so-fun health problems.

The run-down on health problems caused by hunching over a computer

I know this might seem like a minor thing, but how many times have you had a sore neck or a massive headache and didn’t quite know why?

I’ll bet it’s more than once that you can think of.

And it all might be caused by the posture you have when you’re sitting at your computer.

If you go to a doctor for this, they are likely to give you pain pills that lose effectiveness pretty quickly…

And if you go to a chiropractor they will give you an adjustment that can quickly turn into a half a year’s worth of expensive appointments.

The crazy thing is that it seems like the computer is designed to GIVE you bad posture.

And that bad, scrunched-up posture can cause ALL KINDS of health problems.

“This seemingly harmless position compresses the neck and can lead to fatigue, headaches, poor concentration, increased muscle tension, and even injury to the vertebrae over time. It can even limit the ability to turn your head.”

And it doesn’t take long for the pain and problems to set in.

It can happen in as little as 30 seconds of sitting scrunched up like this.

“125 students scrunched their necks for 30 seconds. Afterwards, 98 percent reported some level of pain in their head, neck, or eyes.”

But you don’t have to just take their word for it…

Tests showed that the trapezius muscles tensed up when scrunched – a real physical reaction to this “computer posture.”

“The researchers also monitored 12 students with electromyography equipment and found that trapezius muscle tension increased in the scrunched, head forward position.”

That’s because when your neck is jutted out like this it makes the effective weight of your head seem heavier to your body.

“…when your head juts forward at a 45 degree angle, your neck acts like a fulcrum, like a long lever lifting a heavy object. Now the muscle weight of your head and neck is the equivalent of about 45 pounds. It is not surprising [that] people get stiff necks and shoulder and back pain.”

Thankfully, this is a fairly easy fix. You just need to sit up straight.

Erik Peper, Professor of Holistic Health at San Francisco State University:

“When your posture is tall and erect, the muscles of your back can easily support the weight of your head and neck – as much as 12 pounds.”

Of course, if you’ve gotten into the habit of slouching this is easier said than done.

One thing you can do to fix this is provide yourself with a cue that helps you to recognize the behavior and straighten up.

Observe when you have bad posture for a few days and then figure out what the start of the bad posture is.

Then when you do that starting behavior use the “cue” to catch yourself and straighten up.

There are also devices on the market right now that are supposed to help you correct your posture – and they have great reviews.

One of the more popular ones is the Upright Go.

This device can work by itself or with your phone…

And it is cheaper than two chiropractic visits.

It vibrates when you slouch to help trigger you to sit more upright.

Whatever method you use, it’s a good idea to pay attention to your posture when you are sitting in front of your computer.

Your neck will thank you for it.
