Here’s why men want to drink yerba maté (hint: helps in bed)

If you’re a man with blood sugar problems, and you want a natural solution that doesn’t kill your rockiness…

…then this newsletter about yerba maté will be just what you’re looking for.

Yerba maté is a popular drink in the southern part of South America.

The beverage is made from the leaves of a small shrub.

Yerba maté is an energizing infusion, similar to coffee or tea. It contains similar amounts of caffeine to these beverages.

South Americans drink maté because they believe they can increase metabolism and help with weight loss.

A recent animal study shows that yerba maté does indeed provide significant metabolic benefits.

The rat experiments were carried out at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil. The paper was published by Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy.

Yerba maté has a number of compounds that are known to stimulate energetic metabolism.

And a number of studies indicated yerba maté could be useful for type II diabetes.

“The relationship between metabolic disturbances and clinical events related to diabetes is well known. Yerba maté has presented a potential use as a preventive and therapeutic agent on diabetes.”

This research looked at the effect of yerba maté on metabolism of diabetic rats.

“The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of yerba maté on different tissues of diabetic rats, focusing on energetic metabolism.”

The researchers used 4 groups of 9 rats each.

One group of rats was not given any special treatment.

A second group was given yerba maté tea.

A third group was given a chemical (streptozotocin) which made them develop type II diabetes.

The final group received both the diabetes-inducing chemical and the yerba maté infusion.

“Diabetes was induced by streptozotocin, followed by daily yerba maté treatment.”

The researchers used 70g of yerba maté per liter of water. The water was heated to 175 °F. The leaves were soaked in the hot water for 15 minutes.

The experiment ran for 30 days – after which the animals were examined for metabolic changes.

“After 30 days, the animals were euthanized to evaluate metabolic parameters on liver, adipose tissue, muscle and serum.”

Yerba maté improved blood sugar levels in diabetic animals.

“There was an improvement in serum glucose, creatinine, urea and total protein levels associated with maté treatment.”

The researchers weighed the soleus muscle of the rats. Of course, the diabetic rats lost muscle mass.

But yerba maté prevented the loss of muscle caused by type II diabetes.

“Muscle weight returned to control levels in diabetic rats treated with maté.”

Diabetic rats which were given yerba maté tended to store sugar in their muscles, not in their blood.

(Increased muscle uptake of sugar is one of the benefits of exercise.)

“Muscle parameters, such as glucose uptake and carbon dioxide production, were improved by maté treatment to control levels.”

The increase in carbon dioxide seen with yerba maté is also important. Carbon dioxide is produced by the cell during efficient energy production.

Cellular carbon dioxide production also helps with circulatory problems, which are common with type II diabetes.

It seems that there is a lot of truth to the claims that yerba maté can improve energetic metabolism.

This study argues that drinking yerba maté could be beneficial for people with type II diabetes.

“The results evidenced the beneficial actions yerba maté can have on metabolic disturbances of diabetes.”

There are dozens of beneficial compounds in yerba maté.

It contains caffeine, which stimulates energetic metabolism.

It also contains other caffeine-like compounds, including theobromine.

Theobromine is found in cocoa and it is responsible for the pleasant feelings associated with cocoa products like chocolate.

Moderate cocoa intake is also associated with benefits for people with type II diabetes – this is probably partly due to its theobromine content.

Yerba maté is even known to improve allergies.

You should always consult a healthcare practitioner about treating and diagnosing health-related problems.
