Unusual bacteria that contributes to diabetes

The microbiome is a super complex bunch of bacteria and viruses that make their home in your gut.
I talk about the microbiome a lot because it’s such a big influencer on overall health.
If your microbiome is healthy then you are likely to be healthy.
But if your microbiome is out of whack, you are likely to develop chronic diseases like diabetes.
For years, investigators have sought to understand why people develop diabetes by studying the composition of the microbiome, which is a collection of microorganisms that include fungi, bacteria and viruses that live in the digestive tract.
Researchers have been looking for clues in the microbiome about why people develop diabetes, and they think they have found some answers.

This study published in Diabetes showed that specific strains of bacterium can influence insulin sensitivity and the development of diabetes.
The study, published in the peer-reviewed journal Diabetes, found people with higher levels of a bacterium called Coprococcus tended to have higher insulin sensitivity, while those whose microbiomes had higher levels of the bacterium Flavonifractor tended to have lower insulin sensitivity.
This is remarkable, because it shows just how important gut health is to overall health and how much our guts — our stomachs and intestines — influence our health.
In this study, researchers tested 352 people who didn’t have pre-known diabetes.
They looked at their glucose tolerance and took stool samples.
A little under 10% of the people had diabetes and didn’t know it and about 33% had prediabetes!
So somewhere around 40% had some level of insulin resistance.
Investigators found 28 people had oral glucose tolerance results that met the criteria for diabetes. They also found that 135 people had prediabetes, a condition in which a person’s blood-sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough to meet the definition of diabetes.
In this study, they found that the bacterium Coprococcus had a protective effect on insulin sensitivity while the bacterium Flavonifractor created insulin resistance.
It’s quite astounding that two strains of bacteria can have such a profound influence on human health.
Coprococcus and related bacteria formed a network of bacteria with beneficial effects on insulin sensitivity. Despite being a producer of butyrate, Flavonifractor was associated with insulin resistance; prior work by others have found higher levels of Flavonifractor in the stool of people with diabetes.
Now… the researchers don’t think that you should just go out and take the bacterium Coprococcus as a probiotic.
“As far as the idea of taking probiotics, that would really be somewhat experimental,” said Goodarzi, who is also the Eris M. Field Chair in Diabetes Research at Cedars-Sinai.
But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t pay attention to your gut health.
While you are born with certain strains of gut bacteria passed on from your mother, what your gut microbiome looks like as an adult has a lot to do with what you eat and how healthy your bowel movements are.
For me, I pay very close attention to what I eat.
That doesn’t mean that I find it difficult…
Doctors aren’t likely to talk to you about gut health, but that doesn’t mean it’s not important.
Paying attention to your gut is one of the most important things you can do for your health.

This natural protocol targets the true cause of inflammation in the body
The true cause of inflammation may surprise you…
Did you know inflammation starts in the gut?
It’s true — toxins that leak through the gut wall cause chronic, widespread inflammation all over the body.
Here’s what a leaky gut looks like:

And here’s what a tight gut looks like:

So the stronger and tighter your gut is, the less inflammation you’ll have in the body.
And my simple protocol naturally strengthens men’s guts, so toxins can’t leak through and cause widespread inflammation.
Here’s my simple, natural protocol for men that banishes chronic inflammation forever
