Researchers stunned… Sleeping this way actually gives a survival advantage to men over 50.

——-Important Message——-

Is this man 89 years old? Really?

He has become immune to virtually all the bugs and viruses that are out there…

And he’s just one of many men who live very, very, very long and active lives….having sex with their wives well into their 90s.

Here’s how these men live so long and become immune to most bugs and viruses and have sex well into their 90s

Unexpected survival advantage from sleeping like this.

Most people and doctors will tell you that sleep apnea is a harmful condition.

However, the evidence shows that sleep apnea – especially in older people – is quite protective.

I know that’s shocking.

But this may mean that not treating sleep apnea is the better course…
[cmamad id=”13845″ align=”center” tabid=”display-desktop” mobid=”display-desktop” stg=””]

Treatment usually means having to wear a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine while you sleep.

This is an excellent study that was done in Israel.

There 600 study subjects, all of them over 65.

The scientists compared those who had sleep apnea with those who did not.

The people were all similar, aside from whether or not they had sleep apnea.

Strikingly, they found that higher levels of sleep apnea correlated with much higher rates of survival.

Moderate sleep apnea probably created the best advantage for older people, cutting their death rates by one third over the course of the study.

The researchers were stunned to learn that sleep apnea protects against sickness and death.

They speculate that:

“Apneas during sleep may activate adaptive pathways in the elderly…”

“Activating adaptive pathways” is the role of sleep apnea, I suspect.

Sleep apnea makes you stop breathing.

When you stop breathing during sleep, you build up higher levels of carbon dioxide.

Higher levels of carbon dioxide are very protective.

I think that’s the purpose of sleep apnea.

Here’s another key finding:

“Maximum risk of dying in younger patients and a pronounced age-decline in relative mortality reaching non-significant levels in patients older than 50 years.”

It seems that younger patients who have sleep apnea are possibly seriously ill.

People over 50 years old who have sleep apnea are often not ill at all.

The authors of the study themselves believe that carbon dioxide may be responsible for the advantage that comes with sleep apnea…

“Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular protection conferred by ischemic preconditioning resulting from the nocturnal cycles of hypoxia-reoxygenation.”

I really think this is spot on.

I’m not sure whether using a CPAP machine is actually a helpful thing or not.

In fact, one flaw in this study is that it did not really track whether people were using a CPAP machine or not.

The authors note that many people with CPAP machines don’t actually use them, so maybe this is why they didn’t bother to track it properly.

Probably less than half of these people were using CPAP machines.

But even the ones that were not using their CPAP had a survival advantage.

Another study did look at whether a CPAP machine is protective or not.

This study found that people with severe apnea were more likely to suffer a stroke or a heart attack…

…whether or not they used a CPAP machine.

This study did not find any benefit to using a CPAP machine.

“Our study demonstrated an increased risk of stroke or death from any cause among patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome – despite the administration of CPAP and other therapies.”

A lot of people in that study were not using a CPAP. So it looks like this upholds the conclusion that some level of sleep apnea is protective, whether you use a CPAP machine or not.

It is quite possible that moderate sleep apnea is protective to your health.

Whether or not you want to treat it is now an open question.

1. What are sleep apnea symptoms in men?
It might come as a surprise, but as much as 20 million people in the U.S have been known to suffer from sleep apnea problems, where more than 80% of them are left undiagnosed.Overwhelming fatigue is one of symptoms of sleep apnea in men. The irregular sleeping patterns in the night can disturb an individual’s normal sleep, thus causing severe fatigue in the mornings. The presence of gasping, wheezing and snorting in the midst of loud and deep snoring is a symptom of sleep apnea in men. This indicates that a person is struggling to breathe, in severe cases a person can sometimes cease to breathe altogether in between their snoring fits which can be dangerous. Lack of sleep can often lead to feeling of irritability and can give rise to reactive emotions. Some symptoms like forgetfulness, mood swing and irritability are connected with sleep apnea among men.Men with sleep apnea usually tend to fall asleep anywhere without any regard to the time of the day. This may be indicative that the individual might be suffering from lack of sleep especially in the night. The habit of falling anywhere anytime can be dangerous since sometimes a individual can fall asleep at the wheel while driving, which can cause disastrous results. People who suffer from sleep apnea may also suffer from morning headaches which are usually frequent. It is important that they should seek medical intervention since sleep apnea can also lead to increase in blood pressure and stress if left undiagnosed for long periods of time.
