U. of Pennsylvania: Elixir Restores Health & “Rockiness”

Chronic inflammation is the underlying cause of problems like high blood pressure, erectile dysfunction, diabetes, and much more…

But… Sometimes you WANT inflammation…

Huh?

Yes…inflammation isn’t a bad thing in and of itself sometimes.

In the short term, it can promote healing.

But in the long term, internal inflammation can cause all kinds of health problems.

That’s one of the reasons I was so excited to read this study.

It shows that a common class of diabetes medications can potentially reduce chronic inflammation in the body.

The nasty reality of what inflammation does to your body…

Like many things in life, the things that cause chronic inflammation in the body often start out as being good or helpful.

In this case, it’s something called macrophages that activate when bodily tissue is damaged and go to work repairing your tissues.

[cmamad id=”19667″ align=”center” tabid=”display-desktop” mobid=”display-desktop” stg=””]

“When tissue is damaged, one of the body’s first inflammatory immune-system responders are macrophages, cells which are commonly thought of as ‘construction workers’ that clear away damaged tissue debris and initiate repair.”

That’s a good thing, right? Of course it is!

The problem comes when this inflammatory response gets out of control.

When that happens, the cellular structures of your body get stressed.

I’m not talking about office work stress or psychological stress here, but rather physical stress on the cells themselves.

When that happens, systemic chronic inflammation can occur and it does tons of damage to your body.

Chronic inflammation can harden your arteries, contribute to obesity, cause diabetes, and cause heart disease – among other things.

“However, extended stress on these tissues activates inflammatory characteristics in macrophages that contribute to several systemic effects of obesity including diabetes, atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular disease.”

The substance that’s showing promise to reverse chronic inflammation

This study shows that a common class of compounds may be able to reverse chronic inflammation in the body.

It seems to be doing that by cutting off the fuel supply of the macrophages that cause chronic inflammation.

“Now, a common class of drugs used to treat diabetes has been found to exert a powerful check on macrophages by controlling the metabolic fuel they use to generate energy.”

These TZDs control epigenetic factors that create chronic inflammation in the first place.

“Diabetes drugs called thiazolidinediones (TZDs) control gene expression by targeting a factor called PPAR gamma.”

Traditionally, TZDs have been used to lower blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes.

They are sold under the brand names Avandia and Actos.

“Thiazolidinediones (also called glitazones) are a class of medicines that may be used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. They are a type of oral hypoglycemic (a medicine that lowers blood glucose levels).”

Now, I’m not a doctor so I can’t give you medical advice. I’m certainly not telling you to go on any kind of long-term drug therapy.

But I am happy that the research community is starting to realize the value of reducing chronic inflammation. I do NOT recommend these drugs, by the way…

How to reduce chronic inflammation without Big Pharma products

While medications can be important for treating many different diseases, I’m always reluctant to tell people to go on them for the long term.

Especially when they’re not convincingly proven for what you want them to do.

But you can reduce chronic inflammation naturally by adjusting one simple thing in your diet – the kind of fat you consume.

The medical industry in the West is still telling us to eat polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) as the main source of fat in our diets.

One of the many problems with PUFAs is that they go rancid in the body and trigger chronic inflammation responses.

PUFAs are things like canola oil, corn oil, soy oil, fish oil, and vegetable oil.

When you replace PUFAs with butter and coconut oil, you’ll start to reduce the chronic inflammation in your body.

Make sure you read labels as well because these types of fat are in most processed foods.

This isn’t an instant fix, and it can take some time.

PUFas are stored in your body and it takes a while for them to be replaced by good saturated fats.

The big thing here is to take steps in your life to reduce internal inflammation.

It will help you live a much healthier and longer life.
