According to Cleveland clinic, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease hits at least one third of us.
In this study promises an important remedy that is easy to implement if you have fatty liver disease.
So what is nonalcoholic fatty liver disease? There are several phases to it. The first phase is the liver getting fatty. Just like it sounds. Too much fat around the liver. This is the danger of abdominal fat.
When you’re fat around the middle, you are probably fat in the liver too.
The next stage is the liver losing its function.
This is where it starts becoming less functional, and it may be somewhat irreversible.
It’s the cirrhosis of the liver phase.
And finally, tumors form on the liver. This is the end stage of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Carcinogenesis, the creation of tumors on the liver and the end of life.
The liver is the manufacturing plant for the whole body
There is no way you can live without a liver. The liver is the most important manufacturing organ in the body.
They can take a kidney out, and you can live with one kidney. In fact, with dialysis, you can live with no kidneys. But you can’t live without your liver.
Nevertheless, it is interesting to note that the liver is one of the few organs that can regenerate itself.
They can remove part of the liver, and the rest will grow back. There is probably a lot of damage that can be reversed third any.
It’s really hard to know that you have this.
But if you have fat around the middle, you probably have some degree of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
One more thing that I should mention.
The microbes in your gut can produce various fatty acids.
One of the fatty acids that is getting a lot of attention use butyric acid, or butyrate. It is thought that butyrate is very anti-inflammatory, and therefore good for you. So it makes sense that if you can encourage the production of butyrate in the gut,
it will have a very positive effect on your health, right?
So that brings us to the study.
They gave one group of rats a diet that induces nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. They gave another group the same diet, with a special bacteria called clostridium be tearing him.
And they gave a third group that same diet, with a different probiotic mixture.
The rats that had fatty liver disease still did poorly.
But the rats that had gotten the butyrate probiotics did much much better.
In fact, they live longer, and the livers were healthier than the other rats. Even though they still had non-alcoholic fatty liver disease they were in FAR better shape.
This is kind of gross, but you can see the effect of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
On the left is the control.
These are rats that were NORMAL and did not have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
So it shows you the progression of a healthy liver, a liver that ages normally.
The middle column are rats that had the nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
But they did not have the special butyrate probiotic.
You can see that the liver is a different color, because it’s fatty.
And toward 16 weeks and older, it gets all pockmarked with fatty deposits and tumors. Like I said, it’s gross. I hate to think about my liver looking like this.
So the third column, the right column which I outlined in red, are the rats that were given nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, but who had the protective probiotics that produces butyrate.
As the study notes:
Thus, the manipulation of gut microbiota by probiotics can help counteract the adverse effects on the liver and augment other therapeutic options for NAFLD
What to do next
if you feel you have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, you can actually buy this probiotic on Amazon. It’s pretty cheap. And people reporting very good things about it. You could try a small amount, and then work the dosage upwards.
This is not an affiliate link and I don’t earn a dime if you buy this or don’t buy it.
