This one measure delays aging and may even reverse it

I ran across a phrase in an article about some work being done by the Buck Institute for Research on Aging.

They were talking about how to know if you were likely to get the “chronic diseases of aging.”

I found this phrase interesting, because one of the main things that I teach people to do is to heal and avoid the “chronic diseases of aging.”

These are the diseases that happen most often as we age and that many people (including doctors) see as unavoidable.

But what I’ve found is that if you adopt the right measures you can avoid almost all of the diseases associated with aging…

Including high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, cancer, and more.

In this study, the researchers took a novel approach and used artificial intelligence to identify specific inflammatory markers that create a higher risk for chronic aging diseases.

They used a computer to sift through lots and lots of data to detect what helps cause these aging diseases.

Utilizing deep learning, a form of AI, in studies of the blood immunome of 1001 people, researchers also identified a modifiable chemokine associated with cardiac aging which can be used for early detection of age-related pathology and provides a target for interventions. 

What they found was that chemokine CXCL9 was the strongest contributor to aging diseases.

The study identified the soluble chemokine CXCL9 as the strongest contributor to iAge.

Chemokine CXCL9 is an immune protein and your body uses it to attack infections. So, it’s useful.

You need your inflammatory response to get rid of the “bad actors” in your body.

But when it’s out of control, it ends up creating bad effects in your body, including aging of the blood vessels and arteries — which can lead to serious cardiovascular events.

“But in this case we showed that CXCL9 upregulates multiple genes implicated in inflammation and is involved in cellular senescence, vascular aging and adverse cardiac remodeling” adding that silencing CXCL9 reversed loss of function in aging endothelial cells in both humans and mice.

So, if you have too much chemokine CXCL9 you end up with the chronic internal inflammation that drives most chronic diseases.

Interestingly, a select group of people don’t have problems with too much CXCL9.

In fact, these folks have immune ages that are much lower than average and can live super-healthy into their 100s.

“On average, centenarians have an immune age that is 40 years younger than what is considered ‘normal’ and we have one outlier, a super-healthy 105 year-old man (who lives in Italy) who has the immune system of a 25 year old,” he said.

What that tells me is that it’s 100% possible to live both a long and healthy life.

And that’s exactly what I teach people to do — often by lowering their bodies’ overactive inflammatory response.

This new system is promising, because it looks like it will be able to detect when something chronic is going wrong in the body before folks start to show major symptoms.

“Using iAge it’s possible to predict seven years in advance who is going to become frail.”

I like things that are preventative and can let you know that you are on the wrong track before you get major symptoms.

But it’s still better to take charge of your own health and to understand that out of control internal inflammation can be a health killer.

Because then you can do something about it before it ever becomes a problem!
