Skipping meals lowers libido

The increasing obesity epidemic and the “calories in, calories out” dogma have led to numerous different approaches for reducing caloric intake.

Intermittent fasting is one of these popular dietary methods.

It usually involves avoiding food for 8-16 hours per day in an attempt to lose fat and improve metabolic markers.

Intermittent fasting, like other types of dieting, seems to work in the short term…

But they all harm the metabolism and cause more damage the longer they are practiced.

As you know, I believe most health factors are primarily determined by metabolism.

And low sex drive is a great early indicator of metabolic problems.

Human research shows that fasting decreases sex drive and sex frequency.

This human research took place at the Hamad General Hospital, Doha, Qatar. Urology Journal published the results.

Intermittent fasting (IF) has become very popular in the past two years.

But, in fact, people have been practicing intermittent fasting for a very long time.

During Ramadan, Muslims practice intermittent fasting for about four weeks.

This intermittent fast requires the avoidance of food between sunrise and sundown.

It is quite similar to many types of intermittent fasting being promoted now.

In this study, researchers looked at differences in sexual function and sexual desire in men during Ramadan intermittent fasting.

“Our objective was to determine the effect of Ramadan intermittent fasting on penile function, sexual desire and serum hormone levels.”

45 men were recruited into the study. The average age was 37 years.

The men completed questionnaires looking at various aspects of their sex life and sexual desire.

“Eligible male participants completed a questionnaire for erectile function and sexual desire.”

During the study, the men recorded every instance of sexual intercourse.

“Frequency of sexual intercourse, serum hormone levels, body weight before and four weeks after the end of the month of Ramadan were also recorded.”

By the end of the month-long intermittent fasting period, sexual desire had significantly decreased.

“Sexual desire decreased significantly at the end of Ramadan compared to baseline.”

The men were having much less sex the end of the month-long fast too.

“Frequency of sexual intercourse decreased significantly compared to baseline.”

The researchers also found a significant drop in follicle-stimulating hormone

This hormone is critical to male reproductive health – it initiates the production of sperm in the testicles.

Having decreasing levels of follicle-stimulating hormone is not a good sign.

“Serum follicle-stimulating hormone levels decreased significantly at the end of the month compared to baseline.”

The men did lose some weight…but at what cost?

Their sex drive and follicle-stimulating hormone levels clearly indicated that they were in a bad state.

Intermittent fasting causes a loss of sex drive in men.

“Ramadan intermittent fasting might be associated with decrease in sexual desire, frequency of sexual intercourse, and serum follicle-stimulating hormone level.”

The results are not surprising to anyone who understands that the health of the body is determined by its ability to use energy – metabolism.

Preventing the body from accessing energy from food puts the body into a stressed state.

In this stressed state, the body uses less energy in order to survive longer.

Non-essential bodily functions are deprived of energy in order to keep the organism alive longer during what is perceived as a famine!

Healthy weight loss should be approached by increasing the metabolic rate.

Not by energy deprivation, which lowers metabolism.

Unfortunately, fasting and other popular weight-loss methods do seem to get results in the short term…

And this leads many people to do even more damage to their metabolism and sex life in the process.

You should always consult a healthcare practitioner about diagnosing and treating any health-related problems.
