It’s even affecting the young
Obesity and fat gain can be blamed on this 1 thing

Matt Cook here, and younger people are often more resilient to diseases which affect older folks.
In the last few years, we have seen enormous amounts of evidence put forward that endotoxin is a major cause of obesity and type II diabetes in adults.
New research shows that endotoxin is behind the astronomical rates of childhood obesity too.
Endotoxin as part of some bacteria which normally live in the gut.
Overproduction of endotoxin or increased gut leakiness leads to elevated levels of endotoxin in the blood.
Elevated levels of endotoxin suppress energetic metabolism and increase inflammation.
This is now known as a major cause of obesity, type II diabetes and low testosterone in adult men.
But as you are probably aware we are also undergoing a crisis of childhood obesity.
This childhood obesity is also caused by elevated levels of endotoxin in circulation.
Vast numbers of people have massive amounts of endotoxin circulating in the body and causing disease.
But the good news is that this is a solvable problem.

The human research was carried out at Colorado School of Public Health. The paper was published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.
If levels of endotoxin in your blood get high enough you will die.
But at lower levels, 2-3 times above baseline, endotoxin causes metabolic problems like obesity and type II diabetes.
This slower level of endotoxin poisoning is called metabolic endotoxemia.
“Metabolic endotoxemia may be a shared mechanism underlying childhood obesity and early-onset metabolic diseases (e.g., type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease).”
The authors of this study wanted to find out whether metabolic endotoxemia is causing the same problems in young people as it is in adults.
“We examined associations of serum endotoxin biomarkers and its binding protein, LBP, with adiposity and cardiometabolic risk in youth.”
The researchers looked at data from almost 400 young people taking part in a study in Colorado.
“This prospective study included 393 youth in the EPOCH cohort in Colorado.”
The participants were ten years old when the study began.
They were followed up for six years.
The researchers looked at a number of different markers of endotoxin in the body – including LBP – a protein produced by the body which is used to trap and detoxify endotoxin.
“We examined associations of endotoxin biomarkers at baseline with adiposity BMI, visceral adipose tissue, subcutaneous adipose tissue, skinfolds, waist circumference and cardiometabolic risk.”
Adiposity simply means fatness.
Visceral adipose tissue is fat which accumulates around the organs.
Subcutaneous adipose tissue is fat which gathers under the skin.
Elevated levels of LBP were associated with greater fat gain at follow-up.
LBP is produced by the body in order to trap endotoxin. Higher levels of endotoxin lead to higher levels of LBP.
“Higher endotoxin and LBP predicted greater adiposity across follow-up.”
Endotoxin was associated with a significant increase in body mass index.
“Each 1-unit increase in endotoxin corresponded with 0.23 units increase in BMI.”
As endotoxin increased the kids gained more fat around their organs.
“Each 1-unit increase in endotoxin corresponded to 5.5 mm3 visceral adipose tissue and 8 mm skinfold increase.”
Increasing endotoxin was also strongly associated with an increase in fat under the skin.
“The same increase in endotoxin correlated to a 30 mm3 increase in subcutaneous adipose tissue.”
Higher endotoxin levels were also associated with elevated insulin.
Endotoxin can cause insulin resistance and type II diabetes.
Endotoxin was also associated with changes in cholesterol.
Some types of cholesterol are used to detoxify endotoxin – so this was no surprise.
“Endotoxin was also positively associated with an adverse lipid profile.”
The researchers did find a relationship between the BMI of the mothers…
…and whether or not they had gestational diabetes with the factors tested in this experiment.
It may indicate that similar dietary patterns are causing increased endotoxin in mother and child.
“Adjustment for pre-pregnancy BMI and gestational diabetes attenuated most associations.”
The research shows quite clearly that endotoxin is strongly associated with metabolic problems in children as it is in adults.
Indeed, previous animal and human research shows that endotoxin can cause all the problems listed in this article.
“Serum endotoxin may be a marker of pathophysiological processes underlying development of childhood obesity and cardiometabolic conditions associated with exposure to fetal overnutrition.”
Endotoxin is causing a lot of our health problems but there are effective steps to decrease endotoxin production in the gut and prevent gut leakiness.
You should always consult your healthcare practitioner for guidance on medical diagnosis and treatment.
