Is this treatment doing more harm than good?

I’ve been sounding the alarm for years that men are being WAY overtreated for prostate cancer.

I get it.

If you’re diagnosed with cancer then you may just want to “get it out.”

But unless you have one of the more aggressive forms of prostate cancer a better approach may be what’s often called watchful waiting.

So what is overtreatment?

It’s when doctors treat a cancer that might not actually be harmful.

In some cases, prostate cancer grows so slowly that it doesn’t actually pose a threat to the patient’s health.

However, doctors often feel pressure to treat cancer aggressively, even if it might not be necessary.

The problem is that overtreatment can lead to some severe consequences for men.

Including erections problems and incontinence.

This is what cancer.org says about potential side effects for prostate removal:

The major possible side effects of radical prostatectomy are urinary incontinence (being unable to control urine) and erectile dysfunction (impotence; problems getting or keeping erections). These side effects can also occur with other forms of prostate cancer treatment.

And this is what the Prostate Cancer Foundation says about potential side effects for radiation therapy:

You may experience some temporary urinary symptoms, such as waking up in the night and needing to urinate, needing to urinate more often during the day, or urgency – needing to urinate right now, and not being able to hold it in for a long time.  Tell your doctor; there are medications that can help reduce acute symptoms.  You may also experience some rectal problems, including the need to have a bowel movement more often than usual, or loose stools.

Now… I want to be clear here…

If you are diagnosed with prostate cancer, it is VERY important that you work with your doctor on the strategy that’s right for you.

Personally, for me, if I had prostate cancer and it was determined to be the low risk type, I wouldn’t do removal or radiation.

I’d wait and see what happened.

That’s because watchful waiting has the SAME SURVIVAL rate as active treatment.

The New England Journal of Medicine recently published a study that found that active surveillance is a safe and effective option for men with low-risk prostate cancer.

In fact, the study found that men who underwent active surveillance had similar rates of survival as men who underwent surgery or radiation therapy.

Death from prostate cancer occurred in 45 men (2.7%): 17 (3.1%) in the active-monitoring group, 12 (2.2%) in the prostatectomy group, and 16 (2.9%) in the radiotherapy group (P=0.53 for the overall comparison). Death from any cause occurred in 356 men (21.7%), with similar numbers in all three groups.

Take a close look at those numbers above.

The active monitoring group actually had the BEST survival rate overall.

It’s not a huge difference, but it’s definitely there.

Personally, I think this is in part because when you are doing major surgery like a prostatectomy or bombarding the body with radiation you can cause damage to the body.

Prostate cancer is a serious issue, but overtreatment can cause serious harm.

It’s important to understand the risks and benefits of treatment, and to talk to your doctor about the best course of action.

Don’t let overtreatment ruin your quality of life – be informed and work with your doctor to make the best decision for your health.

I’ve been using a new, natural method to prevent and treat prostate problems at home.

This is a cheap, old remedy most doctors have never been told about in medical school…

…but it does amazing things for men’s prostates when used in this particular way…and it’s certainly helping my prostate and my sex life.

The reason it works has to do with aromatization — which is when testosterone gets turned into estrogen in the body.

This method acts as an aromatase inhibitor, which means it slows the conversion of testosterone into estrogen.

And this has been shown to have huge benefits for prostate health.

And there are other BIG benefits for performance too…

Discover this prostate shrinking machine breakthrough that keeps testosterone HIGH and estrogen LOW and shrink the prostate down to normal size
