One of the hallmarks of aging is an unhealthy buildup of iron in the body.

Alzheimer’s patients have a good deal of iron in their brains.

Iron is necessary of course for hemoglobin in the blood.

But iron is a dangerous metal, and high iron in men is unhealthy — iron overload can make you sick.

And the body uses a tremendous number of tools to attempt to harness and deal with the iron in the body.

In general, lowering iron levels is desirable because the aging process leads to with higher and higher iron levels.

First, you can try to avoid excess iron in your diet.

So here’s a study that shows how to lower iron levels in the blood — you can inhibit the absorption of iron.

Specifically, the study focused on iron absorption with vegetables.

But it applies to orange juice, fruit, beef, and lamb just as much.

They found that certain acids can increase the absorption of iron dramatically in the digestive tract.

The worst offenders are ascorbic, malic, and citric acids.

These acids will increase the absorption of iron from food quite a bit.

Sometimes two or three times as much iron will be absorbed when these acids are present as when they are absent.

What lowers the absorption of iron is tannic acid, which is present in large quantities in black tea.

So when you consume a meal high in iron, what you want to do is consume some black tea or black coffee.

You do not want to consume orange juice or fruit with the meal.

Those fruits or juices are high in citric and ascorbic acid which will increase the absorption of iron dramatically.

So if you eat a meal that has some lamb, beef or other red meat, or a meal that has high iron vegetables have tea or coffee.

I occasionally will drink a Coke, and I’m partial to Mexican Coke.

There’s a reason why Mexican Coke is superior — it does not have citric acid in it.

Don’t consume soft drinks that have citric acid with high iron meals either.

The article doesn’t mention coffee, but coffee is known to inhibit iron absorption.

But this second study documents this effect in coffee on preventing iron from being absorbed:

The inhibition of iron was noted even when coffee was consumed an hour after eating.

When a cup of drip coffee or instant coffee was ingested with a meal composed of semipurified ingredients, absorption was reduced from 5.88% to 0.97%.

So these are some good strategies to eat and drink in such a way as to lower the absorption of iron from your diet.

And hopefully, you’ll live longer and healthier.

The first step is to take a blood test to measure ferritin, which is the molecule where much of your iron is stored.Your ferritin blood test results are first evaluated to see if your levels are within normal ranges. According to the Mayo Clinic, the typical ranges are: 24 to 336 nanograms per milliliter in men. 11 to 307 nanograms per milliliter in women.You may need to get rid of iron in which case one of the best ways is to drink coffee with meals that include red meat. Red meat has a lot of iron and coffee binds the iron.You can also get rid of iron by taking aspirin. Aspirin seems to lower iron levels over time. You must always ask your doctor before you take aspirin. Another way of lowering iron is to make sure you do not eat fruit or fruit juice with meals containing red meat. Fruit and fruit juice contain vitamin C. Vitamin C can increase the absorption of iron up to 8 to 10 times.These will all lower your iron levels naturally. Finally, the easiest thing to do is to donate blood. If you donate blood several times a year, it will lower your iron levels quite dramatically.

You go to a lab and they draw blood and they just throw it away. The blood contains a lot of iron, so if you donate a pint of blood every so often, such as once every six months, it will lower your iron levels over time quite dramatically.This is the best way of getting rid of excess iron and you want to be careful you don’t do too much because if you don’t eat too much blood too often, your iron levels can fall and cause you to get sick.

Though healthy iron levels are very important for the functioning of the human body, too much of it can prove dangerous. Iron overload is an increasing health problem in most developed countries than iron deficiency. Too much of iron levels which is also called hemochromatosis, left untreated can cause liver disease, heart problems and can even aggregate the health among diabetics. Excess iron is usually stored in the liver, heart, and pancreas and can lead to signs like joint pain, abdominal pain, fatigue, and weakness. It can also cause impotence and the loss of sex drive in long-term cases. Certain studies have also found that high iron levels can cause conditions like Alzheimer’s disease, Cirrhosis, and even liver cancer. There are two types of iron that is basically found in the food we eat, heme and non-heme iron. Heme iron is what is found basically in animal-based foods like meat, fish, and poultry. Non-heme irons are found in abundance in whole grains, legumes, and some fruits and vegetables.The best way to lower iron levels quickly is to limit the intake of foods that contain high iron levels. Usually, iron levels are found in abundance in animal-based foods like red meat like oysters, beef and dark meat poultry. One can choose foods that lower iron absorption such as calcium-rich foods like skimmed milk, yogurt, cheese or calcium-fortified soy milk. It has been found that consuming as much as 300 mg to 600 mg of calcium-rich foods can block the heme iron to block the absorption of iron in the body. Alcoholic beverages should also be limited, which can help cut the levels of iron that goes into the body. 

5. How are iron and gout related? 
Iron is a mineral that is very important for the body processes, but too much of iron can cause health conditions which left untreated can prove dangerous to the body. Too much of iron levels can lead to the condition called hemochromatosis. Gout is a condition which is related to elevated uric acid levels in the body and is also considered a sign of iron overload. In men and women, the high levels of uric acid are over 7 mg/dL in men and over 6 mg/dL in women. The symptom of gout is usually found in the human body as painful joints.Since high uric acid levels in the body is considered a marker for increase iron levels in the system, early treatment is warranted in most cases. The cause of this relationship is not yet found, but a connection between the two has been proven by most medical research studies. It has been found that increased anemic levels have a huge impact on the uric acid and the cytokines which causes inflammation in rheumatic and gout cases. Though the condition of iron overload is a hereditary problem, one can also get this condition from liver disease or due to repetitive blood transfusions. Usually, iron gets stored in joints, the heart, and liver and even in the testicles which in the long term can cause significant damage to the body.Anaemia and elevated iron levels are considered a risk factor for Gout. The food that causes gout is highly sweetened drinks that have fructose in it and especially alcohol and beer. Eating too much iron-rich foods like mutton, turkey, duck, goose, and bacon can increase the occurrence of gouty arthritis and thus care should be taken in diet management for individuals who have hereditary high iron level problems.

I was recently told i’ve high level of iron in my blood so i’m looking for natural ways to eliminate. i’d been drinking sodas lately along with other garbage foods/snacks that i know i ought not be eating. having muscle twitching and pain issues in upper left chest and left side stomach – no chest pain just twitching – since i woke this morning. i’m going batty trying to calm myself down.
