Matt Cook here, and pomegranate is a health-giving fruit.

Human studies have shown that it can help with insulin resistance, diabetic neuropathy, and diabetes.

Pomegranate juice even lowers prostate-specific antigen — a marker of prostate cancer…

…while slowing cancer growth in men who had been recently treated for the disease.

The fruit juice can probably help lower the risk of cardiovascular disease too.

A human study found that pomegranate juice can lower blood pressure and inflammatory markers in people with metabolic syndrome.

This is a juice worth putting on your shopping list!

The human research was carried out at the Urmia University of Medical Sciences in Iran. The results were published in Plant Foods for Human Nutrition.

The study recruited 30 participants diagnosed with metabolic syndrome.

A diagnosis of metabolic syndrome requires three of the following five factors.

  • A large waist
  • High triglycerides
  • High HDL cholesterol
  • High blood sugar
  • High blood pressure

The study was designed to look at the effect of pomegranate juice and inflammation and other markers of metabolic syndrome.

Previous research has shown a lot of metabolic benefits can be derived from consumption of pomegranate.

“We investigated the effect of pomegranate juice on components of the metabolic syndrome including an inflammatory index and glycemic and lipid profile indices in patients with metabolic syndrome.”

All of the participants took part in two different trials.

In one trial, they received 20 ounces of pomegranate juice per day for one week.

In another trial, they received the same amount of a placebo drink for one week.

“30 people with metabolic syndrome received pomegranate juice for a period of one week. After one week of wash out period, they received a placebo for one week.”

The researchers tested a number of components of the metabolic syndrome at the beginning and at the end of every week.

Pomegranate juice lowered blood pressure.

It significantly lowered both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

“The results indicated that in comparison to the placebo, pomegranate juice was more effective in reducing the systolic and diastolic blood pressure.”

Systolic blood pressure decreased by an average of nearly 8 points. Diastolic blood pressure decreased by an average of almost 5 points.

Pretty good for a glass of fruit juice!

During the placebo trial blood pressure changes were less than 1 point in each case.

Pomegranate juice also led to a significant decrease in inflammation.

Inflammation was measured by a high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP). This is a great general marker for inflammation.

CRP is widely used in metabolic disorders like type II diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

Decreasing inflammation and lowering C-reactive protein is a good thing for cardio metabolic risk.

“The results indicated that in comparison to the placebo, pomegranate juice was more effective in reducing high-sensitivity CRP.”

This natural fruit juice has a lot of benefits including lowering blood pressure and inflammation.

“Natural pomegranate juice supplementation lowered the level of systolic and diastolic blood pressure in patients with metabolic syndrome as well as their blood hs-CRP.”

Like orange juice, pomegranate juice has many beneficial components.

It provides a natural source of healthy, pro-metabolic fructose.

These types of producers also contain flavonoids and polyphenols — components which can help to control bad gut bacteria.

(Bacteria which are a major cause of metabolic diseases.)

Other studies which have shown benefits from pomegranate juice in insulin resistance, diabetic neuropathy, prostate cancer, and diabetes have also used 20 ounces or less per day.

You should always consult a healthcare practitioner about treating and diagnosing health-related problems.

Atherosclerosis is hardening of the arteries, and it leads to high blood pressure and bad blood flow.

Because when the arteries are blocked up with plaque, blood flow suffers.

And when blood flow suffers, blood pressure goes up.

And this increases your risk of heart attack and stroke.

So how do you get rid of this harmful plaque blocking up your arteries?

Just eat one of these 5 foods — they naturally clear out the arteries and improve blood flow (especially down there)
