Can eye drops prevent cataracts?

Cataract surgery is something that most people just expect to have to undergo as I get older. It is thought that it is very benign. But is it really?

By age 80, more than half of Americans either have cataracts or have gone through cataract surgery.  According to the National Institutes of Health, there are two ways cataracts affect your vision:

  1. Clumps of protein reduce the sharpness of the image reaching the retina. The lens consists mostly of water and protein. When the protein clumps up, it clouds the lens and reduces the light that reaches the retina. The clouding may become severe enough to cause blurred vision.  Most age-related cataracts develop from protein clumping. When a cataract is small, the cloudiness affects only a small part of the lens. You may not notice any changes in your vision. Cataracts tend to “grow” slowly, so vision gets worse gradually. Over time, the cloudy area in the lens may get larger, and the cataract may increase in size. Seeing may become more difficult. Your vision may get duller or blurrier.
  2. The clear lens slowly changes to a yellowish/brownish color, adding a brownish tint to vision.  As the clear lens slowly colors with age, your vision gradually may acquire a brownish shade. At first, the amount of tinting may be small and may not cause a vision problem. Over time, increased tinting may make it more difficult to read and perform other routine activities. This gradual change in the amount of tinting does not affect the sharpness of the image transmitted to the retina. If you have advanced lens discoloration, you may not be able to identify blues and purples. You may be wearing what you believe to be a pair of black socks, only to find out from friends that you are wearing purple socks.

However, one scientist has been working on some simple eye drops that can totally prevent cataracts.

And not only can these eyedrops prove to prevent cataracts, but they can also improve your vision, eye problems such as dryness, and even improve your night vision.

As you know, I am a big fan of discussing objective studies, and generally throwing out studies that are done by drug companies.

But in this case, I have to make an exception. Dr. Mark Babizhayev, a Ph.D. not an MD, has been instrumental in testing and bringing out this amazing eye drop medication to the marketplace.

Can eye drops prevent cataracts? He’s a biophysicist educated in Moscow who has spent many years researching these drops and they deserve to be used by many people who do not know about them.

There may be an option to cataract surgery

So what’s the big deal about cataract surgery anyway?

They put in an artificial lens and that lens may actually go bad and need to be replaced.

An artificial lens keeps oxygen from reaching parts of your eye which can cause longer-term vision deterioration.

So if you can avoid cataracts, all the better. And if you can avoid surgery for cataracts, and treated with a simple eye drop even better.

Can eye drops prevent cataracts? The story is that N-Acetylcarnosine is found throughout the body, and is an important antioxidant.

But as the study review points out,

We have found appreciable levels of L-carnosine in transparent
human lenses which are markedly depleted in mature
cataracts.

So, the good Dr. spent years coming up with a formulation of L-Carnosine that would help the odds.  And what he discovered was revolutionary.

They enrolled about 150 people, half of whom had significant eye problems including clear sensitivity and cataracts, and half of whom did not have eye problems.

They gave them either real eye drops, or placebo eyedrops and followed up with them over nine months. They found very significant improvements in the study group over the control group.

People are using these drops for many eye problems

Blurred vision, glaucoma, near- and far-sightedness, cornea injuries, you name it. It seems to be worth a try.

Anybody with any kind of eye problems should be trying out these eyedrops, and my opinion. They are quite safe, and they seem to have helped a lot of people. Who knows, maybe you can prevent the need for cataract surgery.

Note there are hundreds of positive reviews on Amazon.com and I don’t get paid a dime whether you try it or not.
