Can eating a certain fat promote weight loss?

Weight Loss is something that pretty much everyone is interested in these days.

Of course, when talking about weight loss, most people really want to lose extra fat.

Losing muscle or bone, for example, isn’t good for your health.

The scale will still reflect the lower number on the scale, but it isn’t healthy.

As I’ve talked about in this newsletter before, one of the best ways to lose weight is to eat a diet high in both protein and carbohydrate.

But most people associate eating fats and weight loss as oxymorons.

But this eating plan causes weight loss that you can maintain in the long-term — unlike those dangerous low-carb diets.

Of course, calories play a role too.

Fat intake should be kept on the low side.

And you should put a preference toward more saturated fat rather than unsaturated.

But is there any dietary fat out there that can help with fat loss?

It turns out, there is.

It’s a special type of fat called Medium Chain Triglyceride — or MCT for short.

What makes MCT’s different from other fats?

First off, the length of the fat molecule.

Most dietary fats tend to be long, and as such, they are harder for the body to burn for energy.

For a second, think of a huge piece of wood.

Can it be set on fire?

Yes, it can.

But it is much harder to light on fire than a small twig or toothpick.

It’s a similar concept with fats.

MCTs, as the name implies, are medium length fats.

Since they are shorter than longer chain fats, it’s easier for the body to burn them for energy.

MCTs may also help increase metabolic rate, and this can help the body to burn longer fats.

So, not only do they burn more easily, they make it easier for the body to burn the bigger pieces!

Now, this all seems to make sense, but is that what happens in the real world?

The following study suggests that it does.

In this study, researchers took two groups of subjects that needed to lose weight.

Each group received counseling on how to lose weight.

Both got the same advice, except one group received olive oil to consume, and the other group received MCT oil.

Both groups were instructed to consume 18-24 grams of the oil each day.

And researchers followed the groups for 16 weeks.

After 16 weeks, the group receiving the MCT oil had lost more weight and more fat than the olive oil group.

Looking at the first chart suggests that there is even more to the story.

As the study went on, the group eating the MCT oil CONTINUED losing weight.

On, the other hand, the group eating olive oil, seemed to stall around week 12.

And they even regained some of the weight.

The researchers conclude this was due to MCT keeping the metabolic rate up.

And it stayed up even after the weight loss, so that equals less muscle loss.

The results get even more interesting when we look at some of the areas where the fat loss occurred.

Looking at this table, you will see that the MCT oil group lost more than three times the amount of belly fat than the olive oil group.

You can see this in the row labeled “trunk fat mass.”

Again, this is great news for guys, as most of us want to lose belly fat.

So, how can we apply these results to our lives?

The answer is to add more MCT’s into your diet.

Coconut is the richest natural source of MCTs.

You can also use MCT oil, but it tends to be more expensive than coconut oil.

And there is no exact MCT oil dosage that I’m aware of.

Plus, coconut oil is shelf stable, and you can use it to replace other cooking oils.

Now, if you haven’t used coconut or MCT oil before, start off with a small amount and work your way up.

Any time you change your diet, you can experience digestive issues.

Weight-loss diet that includes consumption of medium-chain triacylglycerol oil leads to a greater rate of weight and fat mass loss than does olive oil.
