Scientific proof she is cheating on you

If you watch crime shows, you know that it’s difficult or impossible to determine if someone is lying or not.

However, a recent study tries to determine if people can pick out a romantic cheater.

And if so, what is it that gives away a liar?

How do you catch someone cheating.

Can it be used when proving infidelity?

Specifically, this study looked at what are called “thin slices.”

These are very short interactions with somebody that can give away a huge amount of information.

It can give away things such as whether they are cheating in a relationship or not.

You may know this.

They say that infidelity is the number one reason why relationships break up.

Now, I’m not sure if infidelity is really the problem.

The problem may be that the relationship is crummy, to begin with.

The infidelity could be the logical result of someone wanting to get out.

But in any event, before a breakup, infidelity is the number one trigger.

Commitment is the most important part of a relationship.

Without true commitment, there can’t be a good relationship.

If the partners aren’t both truly committed, they don’t reap any of the logical rewards that come with it.

Things like love, respect, and sex, not to mention financial support of each other, follow and flow from commitment.

So in this study, they had each romantic partner secretly answer a questionnaire about whether they had cheated.

Then each couple, both the man and the woman, participated in a blindfolded drawing task.

They had to help each other draw something.

And these sessions were videotaped and viewed by trained coders who rated them.

They rated the couples on how committed they seemed to each other.

And on how trustworthy they seemed to be.

They also rated whether the partners had committed infidelity.

Then they compiled the results into a “cheat number.”

The cheat number was a number between one and five.

One designated the person as not at all likely to cheat, while five meant the person is certain or very likely to cheat.

And the findings were striking.

It was fairly easy for the coders to determine if someone was cheating.

It’s not nearly so easy for a partner to see if the other partner is cheating.

But it was very easy for an outside party to determine this.

It seems that in a relationship, people can be blind to whether their partner is cheating.

But outside the relationship, it’s fairly easy to spot a low commitment level that correlates with cheating.

And here’s another study that shows an interesting way to detect cheating.

In this study they had men and women listen to recordings of other men or women.

And then they asked the participants, based on his or her voice, how likely to cheat is this person?

They also used voice-change software to masculinize or feminize the voices.

Then they tested those masculinized or feminized voices for “infidelity likelihood.”

For men with voices that were masculinized by the software, women rated them as more likely to cheat.

The masculinization software lowered the man’s existing voice tone to more of a bass sound (think Barry White).

And

Male participants attributed greater infidelity risk to women with voices manipulated to be higher in pitch than those with voices manipulated to be lower in pitch.

In fact, there seems to be some merit in this.

Men with lower voices tend to have higher testosterone and are more likely to cheat.

And a study has shown that:

women with attractive voices report engaging in more ILLICIT sex than did women with less attractive voices.

So it came down to cheating and voice pitch.

But the reality is that

observers’ attributions of infidelity were influenced by manipulations of vocal pitch.

So, it’s something to keep in mind if you think your partner is cheating.

You may be more affected by her voice pitch than anything else.

In that case, you might want to find a good friend to observe the two of you.

They may be able to see if she is cheating on you.

That might be more effective.

Because as a participant in the romantic partnership, you’re too close to be sure.

You are not in a good position to judge whether she is cheating, without actual evidence.

But your friend may be able to tell from her pitch.
