Does eating too much fat cause ED?

Does eating too much fat cause ED?

One of my best tricks has always been advising men to have sex on an empty stomach.

Having sex after eating an especially big dinner seems to weigh you down and ruin the sex.

And now here’s a study that shows what foods you’re eating could also be part of the problem.

Eating the wrong foods or the wrong diet may be hurting men’s sex lives more than they can know.

They found that foods that can cause erectile dysfunction include those on a high-fat diet.

In this study, researchers gave experimental subjects a meal that was very high in fat or carbohydrates.

And then they observed the effects of the meal.

What makes this study interesting is that the observed effects on the endothelial cells.

What are endothelial cells?

Endothelial cells are lining all of the blood vessels and surfaces inside the organs.

They line the penis erection chambers — and endothelial cells line the arteries feeding the penis blood flow.

The study found that a high-fat meal impaired the function of the endothelial cells.

Postprandial endothelial function was impaired only after the high-fat diet and not after the high-carbohydrate or standard test meal in healthy subjects

So diet and erectile dysfunction go hand in hand, particularly high-fat diets.

It’s possible that this is one of the mechanisms for the long-term buildup of penile fibrosis.

Penile fibrosis is where the erection chambers become clogged with scar-like tissue.

The chambers and blood vessels entering the penis become filled with this hard, fibrotic tissue.

Fibrotic tissue is made up of tangled webs of proteins.

And it all makes for a difficult time having a good erection.

It all starts with endothelial problems.

In the study, the researchers found the type of meal affected the blood vessels.

They found that blood flow decreases dramatically after a high-fat meal.

As you can see in this diagram:

The high-fat meal impairs and messes up the endothelial cells.

This study shows that just one bad meal can impair penile blood flow.

It does it by messing with the lining of the vessels, the endothelium — the endothelial cells.

And many years ago researchers discovered that men who have erectile dysfunction have endothelial issues.

Diabetic men especially have endothelial issues.

And this prevents good erections.

Impaired endothelial cells are unable to maintain an erection.

Diabetic men with impotence have impairment in endothelium-dependent mechanisms that mediate the relaxation of the smooth muscle of the corpora cavernosa.

It’s not just diabetics that have this problem.

It’s EVERY man because the first study in this newsletter had HEALTHY male participants, not diabetic men.

Remember that I said they noticed impairment after just one high-fat meal?

Imagine the damage that may exist if this type of high-fat diet is repeated endlessly?

I expect that this probably leads to long-term inflammation, which then leads to fibrosis.

The fibrosis can happen anywhere — including the kidneys, the liver, and the penile tissue.

What this is telling us is that it’s best not to have a meal full of fat, such as a big meal with pizza.

You might have it occasionally.

But you need to be aware that high-fat is going to cause endothelial impairment.

It may be temporary after just one meal.

But it may also become permanent if it’s repeated over and over again.

Nobody really knows.

Oh, and what about the high-carb meals?

How did those men do?

The men eating high-carb meals without fat did NOT have the endothelial issues.

So if you’re looking for a diet for ED, keep the carbs, skip the fats.

We may not have a complete list of what causes erectile dysfunction, but fatty diets definitely play a role.

Everything in our studies points to the benefits of keeping fat levels low — especially PUFA fats.

So avoid the fats in vegetable oil, peanut oil, nuts, fried foods and bottled dressings and sauces.
