Nitric oxide causes joint destruction in arthritis

I get a lot of notes for men who ask me, “Matt, should I be using L-arginine?

Should I be using these herbs that raise nitric oxide?”

But if you been reading my newsletters for a while, you know that I do not support the use of nitric oxide.

Nitric oxide is kind of like an ambulance inside the body.

It’s used to save your life, but it’s not something you want to depend on every day for transportation.

Like the expense of those ambulance rides, too much exposure to nitric oxide costs you.

So why do they use it to treat erectile dysfunction?

It started years ago when they were experimenting with heart medication.

They sent some of the trial medications home with some of the drug company employees to test out.

Some of the men came back with grins on their face and saying that it help them last a lot longer with their wives.

And that’s the story about how Viagra was discovered.

But it’s important to remember the role that nitric oxide plays in the body.

If you recall, for a long time, people with angina were given and still are given nitroglycerin tablets.

You may know these tablets as “nitros.”

If you’re experiencing an angina episode, you dissolve one of those tablets on your tongue.

The nitro gives you a sudden massive influx of nitric oxide in your body.

And the nitric oxide helps the body to stop the angina long enough for you to get medical treatment.

This is how Viagra was developed.

It was intended to be a better form of nitroglycerin.

Viagra was supposed to be patented and sold at a high price to heart patients.

And Viagra has dramatic effects on nitric oxide.

It’s known as a PDE-5 inhibitor, and essentially it stops the body from removing nitric oxide.

So using Viagra increases your nitric oxide levels by allowing it to build up.

And why is this bad?

Here’s a study where they looked at how nitric oxide affected arthritis.

The researchers took groups of healthy people, and those with rheumatoid arthritis.

And they measured their nitric oxide levels.

In this study, they made three groups of people.

Group I had arthritis and woke up with stiffness and pain in their joints.

Group II had arthritis, but they did not wake up and were not experiencing pain.

Their arthritis was diagnosed through x-rays and similar medical evidence.

Group III was an age-matched normal “control” group for comparison purposes.

The people in this group did not have any arthritis at all.

As you can see, the people suffering arthritis pain in Group I had very high nitric oxide levels.

Next highest were the people who had arthritis but were not currently suffering symptoms.

These were people in group II, people with diagnosed arthritis but without pain at the moment.

Even though they were not in pain, their nitric oxide levels were still very high.

The age-matched group III had much much lower nitric oxide levels.

The researchers rightly conclude that nitric oxide causes:

not only disease activity, but also joint damage.

Nitric oxide causes the arteries and veins to become leaky.

When a patient goes into shock, his nitric oxide levels shoot through the roof.

It’s lifesaving but not desirable — just like the ride in the ambulance.

This is why today’s fetish with nitric oxide is so destructive.

Nitric oxide and health do not go together, in fact, it contributes to a lot of health issues.

It speeds aging, reduces immunity to disease, and causes cancer.

Nitric oxide damages the cells in the body, especially evident in the joint tissue.

As the researchers conclude:

This could suggest the involvement OF NITRIC OXIDE not only in the inflammatory process
of rheumatoid arthritis, but also in the joint destruction.

This is just yet one more reason why we do not want to increase our levels of nitric oxide.

We want to reduce them.

As we regain our proper health, nitric oxide levels fall because we don’t need it anymore.

Meanwhile, we want to do everything in our power to produce nitric oxide levels in our body.

And whatever you do, stay off of the ED pills.
