I want to tell you about what’s wrong with dieting.

Dieting usually involves eating less or cutting back on calories.

Or it could be even worse and mean cutting back on carbohydrates.

Everyone is looking for the best way to burn fat when it’s really not ideal.

This is a perfect formula for increasing stress hormones in your body.

And then the result is just horrible for your health.

You lose lean mass.

Your organs shrink.

Your muscles shrink.

And it’s all because stress hormones like cortisol eat up your lean mass to supply your body with enough blood sugar.

And worst of all, this damage lowers your metabolism.

First of all, your leanness has shrunk.

Now you have fewer cells to burn energy and maintain your metabolism.

Second of all, the dieting itself trained your body to operate at a lower temperature.

Dieting lowers your thyroid function.

And it’s really hard to get thyroid back up to a higher temperature.

Each time you diet it gets worse and worse.

You get colder and colder, and you never bounce back to levels that you were before dieting.

It’s like a car with dents in it.

[cmamad id=”5005″ align=”center” tabid=”display-desktop” mobid=”display-desktop” stg=””]

Each accident the car gets into causes more and more dents until it’s just nothing but dents.

That’s what is happening to your metabolism.

And all of that dieting warps your metabolism so that you don’t store enough sugar energy for between meals.

Most people who have low metabolisms have very very little sugar stored in their bodies.

Maybe only 20 minutes worth.

So whenever they need energy, their body dumps fat into their bloodstream — called free fatty acids.

Free fatty acids increase the likelihood of developing insulin resistance and diabetes.

Free fatty acids cause widespread inflammation in the body.

Now, free fatty acids do serve a purpose.

They are meant to be an emergency device.

But for someone with a liver in such poor shape, they are unable to store enough energy in the form of sugar.

So free fatty acids are doing the job of supply the body with fuel all the time.

And this leads to insulin resistance and diabetes over time.

This is the big lie that people tell about diets — that you should become a fat burning machine.

Nothing could be more false.

When you diet you should actually become a lean mass conserving machine.

The goal needs to be keeping your lean muscle and organs, and just losing fat.

Lose fat without losing muscle.

You want to keep the fat cells though — they actually burn fat.

So if you just don’t add to the fat in your body, you’ll burn off the fat you already have in your fat cells.

And you will lose it completely without actually becoming a “fat burning machine” and risking diabetes.

What you really want is to lose fat and keep your lean mass.

Lose fat, not muscle.

Lose fat, not organs.

To make this work for yourself, you need to be able to measure your mass.

Because if you measure your lean mass your fat mass, you can see the progress that you’re making.

Without measurement, it’s very hard to make progress.

What you measure, moves.

So here’s a way to measure your lean mass and fat mass.

You can watch the fat measurement go lower, and the lean mass stay the same or increase:

There are various ways to measure fat mass versus lean mass.

Immersing yourself in a bath can help because it can determine fat mass to some degree.

There are also those “skin pinch” methods.

But the best method is this one, and you can actually use it at home very inexpensively.

The time required for measurement is only a few minutes, and the instrument is inexpensive and portable.

This method requires no advanced skills on the part of the operator, and, on the other hand, subject cooperation is minimal.

Excellent correlation was observed in the estimation of visceral fat accumulation between this method and CAT scanned results.

I’m testing several of these devices right now, and they vary from $30-$80.

I’ll let you know what I find in a future newsletter.
