Yale: Natural Cure for Common “Incurable” Disease

Thyroid hormone is so little understood by doctors. Most men are LOW in thyroid – and they suffer mysterious diseases.

We have an example in today’s newsletter – but there are MANY examples.

MOST mysterious ailments are related to low thyroid…

Today we are looking at pulmonary fibrosis – a “mysterious” excess of fibrous connective tissue in the lungs that has no known cure.

This scar tissue leads to thickening of the lung walls.

It causes shortness of breath and reduces oxygen supply in the blood – and that has knock-on effects for every part of the body.

Smoking and some medications can cause pulmonary fibrosis. But often the cause is unknown.

In most cases, we have limited treatment options and poor outcomes.

According to The National Institutes of Health, many people die from pulmonary fibrosis within five years of diagnosis… And there is no known cure.

Good news: The NHI may soon need to update that status.

A recent experiment on animals showed a viable treatment method for pulmonary fibrosis using thyroid hormone.

These researchers conducted their study at Yale University and published it in the journal Nature Medicine.

Using genetic analysis, the scientists identified a gene that is more prevalent in the lungs of people with pulmonary fibrosis.

Scientists know that this specific gene (DIO2) activates thyroid hormone in the tissues.

“DIO2 was higher in lungs from patients with pulmonary fibrosis than in control individuals and was correlated with disease severity.”

The more severe the symptoms of pulmonary fibrosis, the higher the expression of the DIO2 gene was.

The team investigated mutant mice lacking the DIO2 gene (knockout mice), and it turned out that these mice were more susceptible to pulmonary fibrosis.

“Knockout mice exhibited enhanced bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis.”

Then the scientists tested a new delivery mechanism designed to get thyroid hormone straight into the lungs of mice.

Using a thyroid hormone aerosol spray, the scientists discovered that they could increase survival rates in the mice affected by pulmonary fibrosis.

“Aerosolized thyroid hormone delivery increased survival in two models of pulmonary fibrosis.”

The team created pulmonary fibrosis in mice through another method to double check the results. Again they found thyroid hormone was protective.

Further investigation revealed that thyroid hormone was keeping the animals alive by reversing pulmonary fibrosis.

Thyroid hormone removed the stiff connective tissue causing lung obstruction.

“Aerosolized thyroid hormone delivery increased resolved fibrosis in two models of pulmonary fibrosis in mice.”

They found that thyroid hormone increased the ability of the lung cells to produce energy – energy that could be used for proper repair.

“Thyroid hormone promoted mitochondrial biogenesis, improved mitochondrial bioenergetics and attenuated mitochondria regulated apoptosis.”

The improvement in mitochondrial health allows cells to produce energy more efficiently and therefore create a youthful, healthy and non-fibrotic structure.

The study concludes that thyroid hormone can help reduce fibrosis in chronic lung conditions by improving cellular energy.

(That is the primary function of thyroid hormone.)

“The antifibrotic properties of thyroid hormone are associated with protection of alveolar epithelial cells and restoration of mitochondrial function.”

This is a very exciting development in a disease that kills 50% of people diagnosed with it in the first five years.

”Thyroid hormone may thus represent a potential therapy for pulmonary fibrosis.”

Unlike some of the advanced genetic technologies being investigated these days, thyroid hormone is completely natural and used by every cell in the body.

We already know that thyroid hormone is safe when dosed correctly.

The aerosol design of this treatment can allow for higher dosing of thyroid hormone to the affected tissue – without needing to increase thyroid hormone to dangerous levels systemically.

The environmental conditions that lead to fibrosis are similar all over the body.

It is quite possible that thyroid hormone therapy could be used for other fibrotic diseases in the future…

Diseases such as cirrhosis, atrial fibrosis, endomyocardial fibrosis, myocardial infarction, Crohn’s disease, and myelofibrosis.

You should see a physician about suspected lung problems or any other health concerns.

What is the main function of thyroid hormone?

Probably one of the most important glands in the human body, the thyroid gland is located at the base of the neck. Shaped like a butterfly, this gland secretes hormones that manage and regulates some of the very basic processes of the human body. The main function of thyroid hormone is to regulate body functions like heart rate, breathing, cholesterol levels, and body weight. As a part of the endocrine system, the thyroid hormone also regulates the nervous system and the body temperature too.The two main hormones that the Thyroid gland secretes are Triiodothyronine ( T3) and Thyroxine ( T4). These two hormones regulate the metabolism activities of the body. It governs the heart rate levels of the body and the speed with which the intestines process food. The Thyroid gland makes use of Iodine in the diet to secrete the thyroid hormone, Thyroxine. It is the Thyroid hormone which increases or decreases the heart rate, which regulates the blood flow in the body. The main function of thyroid gland is to manage and regulate the metabolism of the whole body. The two types of metabolism include Lipid metabolism and carbohydrate metabolism. The Thyroid hormone plays a vital role in the regulation of how the calories are used and burnt by the body. This can cause weight loss or can lead to gain in the weight, dependant on the Hormone level imbalance in the body. The thyroid hormone also plays an important role in the normal growth of children. In cases where there is a deficiency in the secretion of this hormone, it leads to growth retardation and stunts normal growth. The Thyroid hormone also plays an important role in bone growth and its maintenance. Surprisingly, Thyroid hormone also regulates how the muscles in the body contract and even how the food moves through the digestive system.Thyroid hormone can also increase or decrease the temperature of your body. So in a lot of ways, the core benefits and functions of the Thyroid hormone overreaches what is usually common knowledge. But did you know that the Thyroid hormone has a direct effect on the Nervous system and even the sexual mechanisms of a human being?Surprising?Yes, the normal reproductive behavior of a person is based on a balance hormone level in the body. Where the body has a thyroid hormone level which is less than usual, it can cause infertility and other sexual disorders. You might also know that a lower Thyroid hormone level or a higher index can also play havoc with the central nervous system of the body. If you are feeling bouts of sluggishness, then there is a chance of a low Thyroid hormone level in your body. An increase in it leads to anxiety and nervousness.Any imbalance of these two hormones can cause a lot of effects on the human body. Some symptoms of an imbalance in the levels of thyroid hormone in the body include anxiety and nervousness. Hyperactivity is a byproduct of too much T3 or T4 levels in the body. One can face sleeping troubles and occasionally face bouts of fatigue and tiredness. Depression may set in and there may be instances of joint and muscle pain. When there is too much low level of the Thyroid hormones in the body, the condition is called Hypothyroidism. A deficiency in the Iodine levels in the body can lead to this condition. As most of us know, Iodine is very important in the production of the Thyroid hormones. Without Iodine, the thyroid cannot be synthesized in the human body. The other disorder is the onset of Thyroid disease, which is an inflammatory condition affecting in cases of low thyroid secretion. But in cases where there is oversecretion, it can cause an increase in the heart rate and lead to insomnia and high anxiety levels. Overactivity of the Thyroid gland can even lead to the inflammation of the thyroid and even can cause tumors. An individual can have an intolerance to heat or high temperatures due to that.It can also lead to increased bowel movements and hair thinning and loss. There may be weight loss but an inadvertent increase in appetite too. Individuals can suffer from phases of tiredness and irritability too.
