A common myth is that you should turn into a “fat burning machine.”

According to the myth, you have to burn fat to get lean.

However, like many things people believe, this is completely untrue.

In fact, the ability to burn fat is a hallmark of a diabetic person and a fat person.

The ability to burn sugar is a hallmark of a lean, younger, and thin person.

If you ask me, I want to be a sugar-burning lean, youthful machine rather than an older diabetic machine who can’t digest sugar and therefore has diabetes.

(Actually, I want to be a body and not a machine…but that’s a different topic.)

In this study, the researchers actually found that in diabetic people the energy factories in each cell – the mitochondria – are so busy consuming fat they can’t switch over to burning sugar.

So that’s why all of these diet systems that want to turn you into a fat-burning machine are full of crap.

If you are diabetic or near diabetic, if you have a family history of diabetes, if you are overweight, or if you have elevated insulin levels, you are probably already a great fat-burning machine.

What you really want is to become a good sugar-burning machine.

When the mitochondria energy factories are overwhelmed by fat, this is what creates the chronic inability to digest sugar.

That’s what insulin resistance is all about, the inability to consume sugar.

You are locked into fat burning – or, as the scientists say, “fatty acid oxidation.

Most diabetes and insulin resistance is caused by fat.

That’s why some of the longest-lived men in the world, men like Masazou Nonaka, eat cake and candy…and continue to outlive their children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

And yet, everyone continues to believe that sugar causes diabetes!

What causes diabetes are lipids…

Scientists call it lipid-induced (lipid being the scientific name for fat) insulin resistance.

These scientists tested the supposition that insulin resistance is produced by fats.

They did this with mice that were specially bred to be unable to amp up their fat burning.

These mice could not become diabetic. They would consume sugar no matter what and they were very bad at metabolizing fat.

So the fat did not overwhelm the mitochondria energy factory, and the mitochondria continued burning sugar.

And this kept the mice from becoming diabetic.

“These mice exhibit reduced rates of fat metabolism and resist diet-induced glucose intolerance.”

Today we are supposed to believe that all of the white foods – white sugar, white flour, white rice, white bread – are bad.

These foods are demonized right now. They are even taxed in some jurisdictions.

However, studies like this one show us that it’s not sugar that is creating the enormous epidemic of diabetes. It’s fat.

In fact, sugar metabolism protects against diabetes and all the whites foods may be healthier than anyone thinks.

You can be “sugar-thin” as higher sugar consumption boosts your metabolism – and this may help you to live decades longer than you would otherwise.
