I said goodbye to my druggist – here’s what I did

Do you remember Pez candies?

You’d flip the cartoon character’s head back on the dispenser and pop, pop, pop the candies out.

They tasted terrible (and still do)!

[cmamad id=”12651″ align=”center” tabid=”display-desktop” mobid=”display-desktop” stg=””]
But the kids seem to want them anyway because they’re fun.

And even though they are really bad, most people can gobble down a whole sleeve in one sitting.

Because it’s just so easy to keep on popping them out of the silly dispenser.

Well, Big Pharma companies do something similar to YOU.

It’s called polypharmacy.

And it has nothing to do with your health or well-being.

It’s really about lining the filthy, grubby pockets of Big Pharma.

Polypharmacy means people being on multiple medications at the same time.

Usually, these are not short-term chemicals, but long-term “maintenance” chemicals.

Sure, some people in very specific circumstances do need this approach.

But those situations are few and far between.

Most people taking multiple chemicals don’t need all of them.

And they often make health worse, not better.

I’m NOT suggesting you just dump your medications in the trash.

Getting off medication should be done under a doctor’s supervision.

But I am saying that the profit motives of Big Pharma are often in direct conflict with anything to do with ACTUAL health.

What happens when you take lots of chemicals at once?

There are not tons of studies on this.

And the studies that are done tend to be on people who are already in assisted living or nursing homes.

But even so, the results are astounding.

Taking multiple medications…can be linked to problems such as falls, frailty, disability, and even death.

Falls, frailty, disability, and death!

These are some pretty significant side effects from medications that are supposed to help and not hurt you.

And what makes it even worse is that the chemicals are not even necessary in most cases.

Experts suggest that, for most older adults, taking that many medications may not be medically necessary.

That’s a great irony – the medicines that are supposed to make you well are actually making you sick!

What to do if your doctor tries to put you on lots of medications.

It’s not your doctor’s fault!

Most doctors get almost no training in preventative medicine.

They are trained by medical schools that want them to sell chemicals or do surgery.

So it’s normal for them to want to give and give and give.

But when they do that you need to ask questions.

And you need to do your research.

  • Make sure the medicine you’re going on actually does what it says it does and has some long-term studies behind it. This is especially important if it’s a maintenance type of medication.
  • Ask your doctor what the oldest most-proven medication is that can do what you need. The better-known side effects and interactions of older medicines are better-known.
  • Ask your doctor if you really need to go on this handful of medications or if you can just use one or two.

Keep in mind that Big Pharma’s motivation is huge profits.

Do your research on every chemical they want to put you on.

A better approach.

Most of the polypharmacy chemicals that people end up on are for chronic health conditions.

Things like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and cholesterol.

The good news is that most of these things have a common cause.

The bad news is doctors almost never treat that cause.

The common cause is internal inflammation.

This sounds really fancy, but it isn’t.

Internal inflammation is simply the idea that, when exposed to certain environmental factors, your body gets inflamed on the inside.

Just like it would on the outside if you hit your thumb with a hammer.

And this internal inflammation can put your entire body out of whack.

There are lots of ways to address this, but one of the most important is to get rid of environmental sources of internal inflammation.

Polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs) and their role in internal inflammation.

Polyunsaturated fats are in nearly everything we eat in our modern diets.

These are things like corn oil and soy oil and canola oil.

Basically, with the exception of olive oil, if an oil can be liquid at room temperature then it is bad for you.

This probably goes against all the medical advice you’ve ever heard…

But when you start looking into the research, you’ll see that PUFAs are usually inflammatory in the body.

And they’re a big part of the underlying causes of many of our modern long-term diseases.

When you get rid of PUFAs, you can often start to walk away from the polypharmacy approach to health care.

Look…sometimes you need chemicals to get better, or to maintain a level of health.

But we should always be looking for ways to prevent (rather than treat) disease.

And never ever let your doctor put you on tons of chemicals all one time (unless it is absolutely necessary).
