Matt Cook here, and your gut directly influences your brain… something you may or may not have known…

And now, a new study shows that your brain may also influence your gut.

This study is a little bit on the weird side, so bear with me as I break it down…

There has been some significant research that shows that if you have serious gut issues, you are much more likely to get Alzheimer’s.

People with gut disorders may be at greater risk of developing Alzheimer’s Disease. A new study has confirmed the link between the two, which could lead to earlier detection and new potential treatments.

This has to do with what scientists call the gut brain axis.

“These findings provide further evidence to support the concept of the ‘gut-brain’ axis, a two-way link between the brain’s cognitive and emotional centres, and the functioning of the intestines,” Professor Laws said.

What that means is that the health of the gut influences the health of the brain.

But it also looks like the health of your brain can influence the health of your gut!

In a huge study with 750,000 people, researchers found that people with higher cognitive function have fewer gut issues.

This large-scale study examined the genetic information of more than 766,000 individuals, with an emphasis on AD, cognitive traits and gut disorders, including peptic ulcer disease (PUD), gastritis-duodenitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulosis and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

It found higher levels of education and cognitive functioning reduced the risk of gut disorders.

This is where things get wild….

Most people don’t think of the brain having much of an impact on the rest of the body.

Western medicine certainly isn’t set up to take that into account most of the time.

But that view doesn’t really make a lot of sense when you look at it more closely.

The brain is a physical structure in your body and it’s responsible for regulating your body systems.

So it makes some sense that if you have a higher functioning brain then you are likely to have a better functioning body.

Higher levels of education and cognitive function protecting against gut disorders was true of all the disorders examined in the study

The researchers are suggesting that formal education is the key to having better gut health.

“Hence, policy efforts aimed at increasing educational attainment or cognitive training may contribute to a higher level of intelligence, which could lead to better health outcomes including a reduced risk of gut disorders.”

I personally don’t think that formal education like college is necessary to get this benefit.

Instead, I think that you have to have a curious mind and be willing and able to learn new things.

I’ve found that the men that I work with who get the best health results have open minds…

…or what is known as a growth mindset.

After studying the behavior of students and children, the term “growth mindset” came about. Simply put, this mindset means that you believe in your ability to become better through hard work, and help from others.

A growth mindset means that you believe that you can become better by working at it and learning how to be better.

If you can stay open minded and believe that you can get better by learning and applying what you learn…

…then my experience says that you can have much better health outcomes.

How to know if you have gut problems — do the red beet test

Most men have guts that are way too fast or way too slow.

So I’ve come up with a quick way for a man to test out his gut health at home.

I call it the Red Beet Test, and all you need is some beets.

Eat them raw or cooked, however you prefer, and then wait to see them pass through your stool.

If it takes longer than 12 hours, your gut is too slow.

If it takes less than 12 hours, your gut is too fast.

And both mean you are suffering from a leaky gut, which is when poisons are spewing out of your gut and into the rest of your body.

But don’t worry — I’ve found a simple fix for both problems and it’s just as simple as the red beet test…
