Did you know that our genes change throughout our lives?

The science that studies this is called “epigenetics.”

Epigenetics is the study of how your behaviors and environment can cause changes that affect the way your genes work.

Epigenetic changes don’t exactly change DNA — they change how the body reads DNA.

These changes can be induced by your environment and what you eat.

Therefore, what you put into your body matters.

This 2018 study shows how 2 substances found in grapes save you from depression by creating epigenetic changes in your body.

This study was conducted at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. It was published in Nature Communications.

Depression is a leading cause of disability worldwide.

According to scientists, approximately 16 million individuals experience a major depressive episode in the U.S.

Doctors often prescribe pharmaceuticals that are often hit or miss — they also come with serious side effects.

The most common ones are SSRIs.

Some of the side effects of SSRIs are

  • Sexual problems such as loss of libido, poor rockiness, and difficulty reaching orgasm.
  • Anxiety
  • Indigestion
  • Nausea
  • Headache

If I keep telling you about their side effects, this article would go on and on.

This is precisely why I prefer to try to solve depression and other mental problems with natural methods instead of such harmful pharmaceuticals.

Researchers have discovered one of these natural methods in the study I mentioned above.

They created a polyphenol cocktail called BDDP (Bioactive Dietary Polyphenol Preparation).

This cocktail contains grape juice, grape seed extract, and trans-resveratrol.

They gave this cocktail to mice subjected to chronic stress.

Chronic stress is known to cause epigenetic changes, inflammation,

and depression in mice and humans.

“Chronic stress in animals showed that epigenetic and inflammatory mechanisms play important roles in mediating resilience and susceptibility to depression.”

And they discovered that 2 phytochemicals in this cocktail – dihydrocaffeic acid (DHCA) and malvidin-3′-O-glucoside (Mal-gluc) – provide resilience against stress.

This is how it works:

DHCA reduces interleukin 6 (IL-6), a pro-inflammatory substance, by epigenetically modulating the IL-6 gene.

Mal-gluc modulates the Rac1 gene and increases synaptic plasticity.

“Here, through a high-throughput screening, we identify two phytochemicals, dihydrocaffeic acid (DHCA) and malvidin-3′-O-glucoside (Mal-gluc) that are effective in promoting resilience against stress by modulating brain synaptic plasticity and peripheral inflammation.”

Moreover, these 2 phytochemicals significantly reduced depression in mice as well.

DHCA/Mal-gluc also significantly reduces depression-like phenotypes in a mouse model of increased systemic inflammation induced by transplantation of hematopoietic progenitor cells from stress-susceptible mice”

The researchers reported that inflammation and synaptic disorders are not targeted by conventional antidepressants.

“Peripheral inflammation and synaptic maladaptation are in line with newly hypothesized clinical intervention targets for depression that are not addressed by currently available antidepressants”

Therefore natural phytochemicals derived from grapes may play an important role in the treatment of depression.

“The discovery of these new, natural grape-derived polyphenol compounds may provide an effective way to treat a subset of people with depression and anxiety.”

This study provides empirical evidence supporting the targeting of multiple disease mechanisms through DNA epigenetic modification for the treatment of depression.

So, that brings us back to what I said at the beginning.

What we eat can affect our DNA.

Natural products have a history of being the main treatment when it comes to treating disorders.

As you can see, depression is among those disorders as well.

If you want to become more resilient to stress, reduce inflammation and get rid of depression, you can add grapes and grape juice to your diet.

Grapes are also a great source of carbohydrates and minerals.

But make sure they are organic because conventional grapes can contain pesticide residuals.

Try one of these 5 “flow foods” for better male blood flow

The real cause of high blood pressure also causes bad blood flow in the male body.

The arteries get narrow, constricted, and lose their flexibility.

And then blood flow suffers, and the heart has to respond by turning up the pressure.

This affects every organ in the male body.

High blood pressure is the body’s attempt to force better blood flow through the male body.

But now all you need to do is add one of these 5 “flow foods” to your breakfast…

And you will naturally be improving blood flow in the male body.

Men are finding they get a nice little boost “downstairs”…

Here are the 5 “flow foods” that naturally lower blood pressure by improving blood flow in the male body
