Men benefit from stable blood sugar levels.

An uncontrolled blood sugar level often resembles a rollercoaster.

Although real rollercoasters are fun, blood sugar constantly going high and down is DEFINITELY NOT…

A quick spike in blood sugar, followed by a rapid drop, can result in

  • Diabetes
  • Fatigue and irritability
  • Heart disease
  • Mood swings.
  • Hunger pangs, cravings, and difficulty in weight management.

It’s all about balance…

… and that’s why it is essential to maintain a stable blood sugar level throughout the day.

Today’s study shows one of the easiest ways to do that.

This study was conducted at the University of Otago, New Zealand. It was published in Diabetologia.

When you go to a doctor for blood sugar problems, he will tell you that you need to exercise – and, this time, he’s absolutely RIGHT.

There are many incredible benefits of exercise for men, and this study shows how it helps blood sugar.

But here’s the thing…

The study doesn’t talk about the usual kind of exercise…

The researchers shone light upon a NEW exercise technique which they called “exercise snacks.”

“The aim of this study was to investigate whether small doses of intense exercise before each main meal (‘exercise snacks’) would result in better blood glucose control than a single bout of prolonged, continuous, moderate-intensity exercise in individuals with insulin resistance.”

Let’s take a look.

The researchers compared the effects of 2 different types of exercise on blood sugars in 9 healthy subjects.

1st type of exercise was:

Traditional continuous exercise (CONT), comprising 30 min moderate-intensity (60% of maximal heart rate.) incline walking before dinner.

2nd was:

“Exercise snacking (ES),” consisting of 6×1 min intense (90% HRmax) incline walking intervals 30 min before each meal.

3rd was:

“Composite exercise snacking (CES),” encompassing 6 × 1 min intervals alternating between walking and resistance-based exercise, 30 min before meals.

The results were as follows:

Short bursts of exercise before meals reduced blood sugar spike after meals – thus, a balanced level was achieved – compared to 30 min continuous exercise.

“Exercise Snacking (ES) attenuated mean 3 h postprandial glucose concentration following breakfast and was more effective than CONT following dinner.

This type of exercise not only prevented the spike but also got the blood sugar to a better level and kept it there for 24 hours.

“ES also reduced 24 h mean glucose concentration by 0.7±0.6 mmol/l, and this reduction persisted for the subsequent 24 h.“

The 3rd technique was as effective as the 2nd one in doing so.

“CES was just as effective as ES at improving glycaemic control.”

Overall, “Exercise Snacking” trumped conventional exercise in maintaining a perfect blood sugar level.

While it was effective, it was super time efficient as well.

“Dosing exercise as brief, intense ‘exercise snacks’ before main meals is a time-efficient and effective approach to improve glycaemic control in individuals with insulin resistance.”

If you struggle to maintain a stable blood sugar level (or have a high one), you can try this technique.

So tomorrow, try sprinting or a quick HIIT workout (easy to find online) before meals.

They can help you get to a perfect blood sugar level.
